I’m Matt Chambers-Rhea, and I wanted to tell you a little bit more about myself.

 

I’m from Nashville, TN where I currently live, which has been a great place to be with all the music that’s around here.

 

Music has alway been a part of my life. I grew up in a musical family and began learning the piano when I was 5. When I was 10, I learned I could join my school band, which I did and began playing the saxophone and have been playing the saxophone ever since.

 

In college, I studied music education and graduated from Belmont University here in Nashville in 2011. A few years later, I moved to the United Kingdom and got a Masters degree in Saxophone Pop Performance at the Leeds Conservatoire in Leeds, England.

 

I finished my Masters in 2014 and moved back to Nashville to continue working as musician.

 

I began teaching private and group lessons at local schools and in people’s homes, and in 2015, I became a adjunct professor in the music department at Belmont University, my alma mater, here in Nashville, where I teach music theory and ear training courses.

 

I’ve played in pit orchestras around Nashville for various Musical Theater productions and have done some recording session work and play on my church’s music team as well.

 

And while I’m a woodwind player and teach saxophone, flute, and clarinet lessons, I’ve also worked with and taught other instrumental musicians such as piano, string, and brass players as well as vocalists working on elements such as musicianship, style, performance anxiety, audition prep, music theory concepts, and ear training techniques. Just to name a few things.

 

I married my wife, Sally, in August of 2016. We are both comic book, super hero, and Star Wars nerds and enjoy playing board games, hiking, kayaking, bird watching, and generally being outdoors.
