allow me to introduce myself
A Musician, Educator, and Collaborator
Hi! I'm Matt Chambers-Rhea (pronounced "Ray").Thanks for visiting DoRheaMi.I've always loved seeing musical ideas grow into something people can hear, perform, and enjoy.Whether you're writing a song, finishing a recording, trying to understand music theory, preparing sheet music for performance, or simply wanting to grow as a musician, wherever your music is in the journey—learning it, writing it, recording it, or preparing it for performance—I'd love to help you bring it to life. That's why I created DoRheaMi.Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a musical family, started piano at five years old, and picked up the saxophone at ten. That passion eventually led me to earn a degree in Music Education from Belmont University before moving to England to complete a Master's degree in Commercial Saxophone Performance at Leeds Conservatoire.Since returning to Nashville, I've had the privilege of teaching, performing, recording, and collaborating with musicians from all walks of life. I've taught Music Theory and Ear Training at Belmont University since 2016, performed in musical theatre pit orchestras, played on church worship teams, and recorded remote sessions for artists and composers.
What I enjoy most isn't just making music—it's helping other people make theirs.Whether we're working together through music coaching, remote woodwind overdubs, music theory and ear training, or professional music engraving, my goal is simple: to listen to your vision, encourage your growth, and help you create music you're proud of.When I'm not making music, you'll usually find me spending time with my wife, Sally. We're both comic book, superhero, and Star Wars fans who love board games, hiking, kayaking, bird watching, and just about anything that gets us outdoors. Thanks again for visiting DoRheaMi. If you have a musical idea, a project, or a question, I'd love to hear about it. Let's start the conversation and bring your music to life.
Let's Make Music!
Every piece of music has a story behind it. It often starts small—a melody, a rhythm, a question, or an idea—and grows into something people can hear, play, and connect with. I love helping musicians understand those ideas, shape them, and find the skills, sounds, and confidence to take them further.Wherever you are in the process—learning it, writing it, recording it, or preparing it for performance—I’d love to be part of the journey.Use the form below to let me know what you're working on and how I can help. Please include any questions you may have.
Music Performance Coaching
For instrumentalists, vocalists, bands, and ensembles at every level.
You’ve put in the work, learned the notes, written the song, rehearsed the set, or built the arrangement. Now it’s time to make the music come alive.
You Have Something to Say. Let’s Help You Say It.
Great performances are about more than playing the right notes. They’re about connection, communication, confidence, and expression.Maybe you’re struggling with technique. Maybe you know what you want to hear but aren’t sure how to make it happen. Or maybe you’re simply ready to push yourself further. That’s where coaching comes in.Together, we’ll identify what’ll improve your performance and build the skills you need to move forward—with a plan that fits you, your music, and your goals.
Coaching That Meets You Where You Are
Everyone starts somewhere. You don’t need to be an advanced musician to benefit from performance coaching—and you don’t have to be a beginner, either.Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time, preparing for your next big performance, or performing professionally, coaching is tailored to your current ability and where you want to go next.
